ABOUT PANDEMIC AND QUARANTINE 2020

My job as an artist requires me to be bold and vulnerable all at once to reach hearts and souls everywhere through the painting and poetry that pours out from me. Not everyone can express what they are going through or have gone through. The vulnerability in my life is revealed onto canvas, wood panel and paper. This exposes my heart and gives it a voice to my life experiences which acknowledges to others they are not alone. And here we are at a time where all of us in our world are going through this Covid-19 pandemic. And whichever part of the pandemic you are facing, experiencing or enduring, we are in this together.

“Midnight Voices” is a creative harmony of painting and poetry expressing the voices in the night of our troubles and fears as our world endures this midnight hour. It’s the voices of light and illumination we need to hold onto as the textures of our troubles, fears and anxieties grab hold of us. Too many voices are out there distracting us from this time of stillness for those of us who are quarantined at home and more voices as we slowly go back to work and activities. I am reminded from the many late night hours I spent holding this canvas, making and painting these meaningful layers of texture and color by hand to listen for the light in the midst of the darkness. From these late hours this painting and poem is birthed into life.

While spending time in the studio during our quarantine comes a new "Midnight Series" to be revealed as they are being finished. I started this series with a large painting representing our world and then moved to this small work to represent the individuals in our world; the personal person and humanity simultaneously. These are the moments, minutes and hours of closeness, honesty and hope I experienced while painting this small canvas with a mighty heartfelt message. Wherever you are, you are not alone... We are in this together.
